CUCF Release Record Authority

Central Utah Correctional Facility is part of the Utah Department of Corrections statewide prison system. It is in Gunnison and serves people whose cases may have begun anywhere in Utah, including Tooele County. The physical prison location does not shift control to Tooele officials. UDC holds the custody and supervision record, while the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole controls parole and sentence-termination decisions within its authority.

A CUCF departure can be a transfer for release processing, a move to another UDC placement, or another custody event. The destination matters. UDC directs people scheduled for release from CUCF to the release building at the Utah State Correctional Facility in Salt Lake City. Thus, departure from Gunnison alone is not proof of community release. The later UDC event and Board order resolve the outcome.

CUCF Release Route Through USCF

UDC processes state paroles and releases on Tuesdays, and most are completed at USCF. Family or support pickups for a person housed at CUCF are asked to arrive at the USCF release building at 9 a.m. State processing may then take one to four hours. These details help plan the check, but they do not replace person-specific confirmation.

The state may transport a person to a community correctional center when that is the approved placement. A person approved for community release may leave with support after processing. If no ride is available, UDC may take the person to a nearby UTA TRAX station, and those people are released last. UDC's transport from Gunnison to Salt Lake is part of the state process, not a local Tooele jail transfer.

Verify a CUCF Release

Use the most exact identifier available. Names can be shared, misspelled, or stored under an alias. An offender number is more reliable. Search results should be read as posted, since parole, probation, incarceration, community placement, release, and discharge describe different legal states.

1. Search the UDC Offender Search by offender number or exact name.
2. Confirm the person through the UDC number, posted location, facility field, and any other identity fields.
3. Read Release Date/Type exactly. A value of N/A means the public record does not supply a useful date.
4. Open the Board search and locate the decision or order, not merely the hearing calendar entry.
5. Check whether the state location changed from CUCF to USCF or a community correctional center.
6. Use Utah VINE for the custody-change notice, then verify that event with UDC or AP&P.
7. If the person fully discharged and disappeared from the active search, request the UDC record and preserve the Board or court order.

A released result can still mean active parole. Parole is supervised release from prison. Probation is community supervision ordered by a court. Discharge generally marks the end of the sentence or supervision. Never translate one status into another merely because the person is no longer housed at CUCF.

UDC states that its search covers people currently incarcerated by Corrections or on probation or parole. It is not a comprehensive historical archive. A person who finished all state supervision may no longer return a record. A person whose only custody was the Tooele County jail may never have a UDC record at all.

The search has no public photo field in the documented detail. Use identity numbers and the record itself rather than expecting an image. If a date is absent, the next step is the Board order and UDC records route, not a guessed sentence calculation.

Gunnison Parole Release Decisions

The Board's public tool can be searched by required first and last name, optional middle name, offender number, or a date range of up to seven days. It shows upcoming hearings and earlier public decisions. Person history can include hearing type, final decision date, decision description, effective date, and the Board order PDF.

Gunnison hearings generally occur on Tuesdays. That hearing cadence must not be confused with release day or an automatic approval. The Board says decisions are not made at the hearing and commonly take two to six weeks to post. An original hearing, rehearing, redetermination, paper review, rescission, or parole-violation hearing has a distinct role. Read the order rather than infer an outcome from the event label.

A granted date may remain subject to a release contingency, new charge, disciplinary action, review, or rescission. A contingency is a condition that must be met before release can occur. The effective Board order is therefore stronger than a tentative month, while UDC and VINE show whether the custody event was carried out.

Note: A Gunnison hearing date marks Board review, not the day a person leaves state custody.

CUCF Release Date Changes

Utah primarily uses indeterminate prison terms. A court imposes a statutory range, and the Board aggregates concurrent or consecutive terms before setting review under its rules. Guidelines aid the decision but do not create a right to release. Utah has no universal 85-percent requirement for all prisoners.

Approved earned-time work is one factor that can change a date. Under Utah Code 77-27-5.4, successful completion of a qualifying recidivism-reduction program in the case action plan can produce a mandatory four-month credit per program, up to two programs and eight months, subject to legal exclusions. Later vocational work may receive different treatment, and the Board can consider discretionary cuts for other accomplishments.

Credit is not always available. Life-without-parole cases, certain expiration orders, lack of a current date, an unmet contingency, or too little transition time can prevent application. Major discipline, a new charge, or a rescission hearing can also forfeit credit. Completion while no date exists remains a fact for later review, not a self-executing release order.

A felony case from Tooele County can lead to UDC confinement at CUCF, but the state system then owns the prison record. The Tooele judgment provides the sentence range. The Board order provides the parole or termination decision. UDC supplies current location, Release Date/Type when posted, and the later supervision status. This state chain differs from a county jail term. Bail, a local bond, or a Sheriff release sheet governs a Tooele detention exit, not a CUCF prison discharge. Conversely, the Tooele roster cannot prove that a state client reached the community. When a person moved through several custodians, build a timeline from the county transfer entry, UDC location changes, Board decision, and final state release event.

Court records can help resolve the sentence and later orders, but a court entry alone does not mark the physical minute of discharge. The operational state record completes that part of the chain.

After a CUCF Parole Release

UDC Adult Probation and Parole supervises people released on parole and people serving state probation in the community. The Board makes parole decisions and can address alleged parole violations. AP&P verifies proposed addresses, supplies reports, and manages the individual supervision plan. CUCF staff do not replace the field office after release.

A claimed supervision change should be checked through UDC, the Board order, or the responsible AP&P office. Reporting instructions, travel limits, officer assignments, and conditions are person-specific and should come from official paperwork.
